All three HCC basketball teams were in action over the past week, here’s how they all did:
Men’s Basketball
November 21 Vs. Harrisburg Area Community College, 89-70 Win
Columbia, MD – Harrisburg got out to an early 6-point lead just over a minute into the game, but HCC would tie the game three and a half minutes later. The Dragons and Hawks would trade leads until midway through the half, before the Dragons took a lead that they would not lose for the remainder of the game with 10:21 left in the half. The Dragons would end up with a 45 to 34 lead to end the half. The Dragons would continue rolling, maintaining a double digit lead the entire second half to claim an 89-70 victory. Sophomore Arthur Roaché recorded a double-double leading the team in points and rebounds, with 19 and 13 respectively.
November 25 @ CCBC Dundalk, 72-65 Win
Dundalk, MD – The Dragons found themselves in a back-and-forth matchup against the Lions on Monday night with 10 lead changes in just the first half. CCBC Dundalk lead by as much as 8 with under 5 minutes remaining in the half, but HCC prevented them from pulling away, taking a 4-point lead with under a minute remaining in the half and going into halftime with a score of 35-34 in favor of the Dragons. The second half would start in the same way the game had been going, featuring 4 lead changes in the first 6 minutes. But with 14:05 left in the game, Jaden Johnson would put up a layup that gave the Dragons a lead they would not lose for the remainder of the game. HCC won by a score of 72-65, with both Emmanuel Henriques and Anthony Djami recording double-double efforts.
The men’s team will attempt to continue their four-game winning streak on December 4 at 7:00 p.m. against Allegany College of Maryland at home.
Women’s Basketball
November 23 @ Christendom College, 45-63 Loss
Front Royal, VA – HCC had a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but would be outscored 24 to 12 in the second quarter to come to a 25-35 deficit at the end of the half, which they could not overcome. Freshman Nicole Forbes lead the team with 15 points and sophomore Dye Boiro Balde lead the team with 11 rebounds.
November 24 Vs. Bryant & Stratton College (VA), 27-78 Loss
Columbia, MD – The Bobcats overwhelmed the Dragons, coming out to an 11-0 lead to start the game. The Dragons would turn the ball over 40 times in their effort. Freshman Hannah Chambers would lead the Dragons in points with 10, and sophomore Asani Offer would lead the team in rebounds with 9.
The women’s team will look to break to their losing streak in their first Region 20 game against Allegany College of Maryland at home on Decembre 4 at 5:00 p.m. for Interfaith Night.
JV Basketball
November 22 @ West Nottingham Academy, 69-95 Loss
Colora, MD – JV basketball scored the most points they’ve had this season, putting up 69 when they traveled to West Nottingham Academy. They will be back in action next week against Harcum College’s JV team on Monday, December 2.
