Writers, Reporters and Student Journalists

The student journalist position is fully remote at this time. All applicants must be at least part-time students at Howard Community College. Articles are published on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with a weekly or bi-weekly turnaround. Student journalists are paid $25.00 per article published, with the ability to publish up to four articles each month. Regular contributing journalists are assigned beats (specific categories in which writers are expected to stay up-to-date), are expected to publish at least two articles monthly and work directly with the editor-in-chief in revising their articles. Journalists will attend monthly meetings where work-in-progress can receive constructive feedback and where they can participate in skill-building activities that are centered on writing skills.
