Dungeons and HCC Dragons is a club at HCC focused on building community and growing. They use Dungeons and Dragons, a tabletop role-playing game, to help people find a tribe, express themselves, allow creators to create, and expand knowledge about TTRPGs, like D&D, in an approachable way. I met with Ruby, the club president, who discussed the club’s goals and values.
According to Ruby, the recent surge in popularity of tabletop role-playing games, with a boom of media like Baldur’s Gate 3 or Stranger Things mentioning D&D, has made the hobby more accessible than ever. The club hopes to provide an easy entry point for those who are curious but unsure where to start.

Ruby used a personal example to expand on why they view TTRPGs as such a positive outlet, discussing how their brother had gotten them into Dungeons and Dragons by having them watch a few sessions. Ever since those first few sessions, it’s been a large part of how they relax and hang out with friends. Their goal is to share this social and relaxing hobby with others, whether they are veterans or brand new to the game.
They are looking at hosting a few events around campus in the upcoming year. One of which will allow experienced or new players to play the game for a brief period and get donuts as a reward for participating. They have also gotten a jump-start on planning some seasonal events for the Fall Semester, so make sure to keep an eye out for what they have planned.
